Local Sports Round up 2/14/14

In girls’ playoff basketball action tonight:

 

There’s a Class A, Div. I playoff double-header at Angelina College in Lufkin, as San Augustine and Shelbyville will both be playing area round games. In the first game at 6, the Lady Wolves take on Cushing, followed by the Lady Dragons meeting West Sabine with an 8 o’clock tip-off. By the way, Shelbyville girls’ district championship is the first in 20 years.

The Tenaha Lady Tigers have a second round playoff game against Dallardsville Big Sandy at 6:30 tonight in Hudson.

 

The Garrison Lady Bulldogs will have a Class 2A area round game against Jefferson at 6 p.m. Saturday in Carthage.

 

In last night’s District 20-3A district playoff game in Hudson, Jasper defeats Diboll, 57-54, and Diboll will enter the playoffs at the fourth-place team from the district. Center will now play Jasper at 8 tonight, with the winner advancing into post-season as the second seeded team, and the loser the third-place representative. Central won the district outright.

 

In another district playoff game tonight, San Augustine will take on West Sabine at 8 at the Lufkin Middle School Gym. The winner has a first-round bye, with the loser going in the playoffs as the second seeded team. Broaddus is the third seeded team.

 

Tenaha has a first-round bye in the Class A, Div. I playoffs, while Shelbyville, the District 22-1A, Div. 1 third-place team, will play New Summerfield at 7:30 Tuesday night in Tatum for bi-district. Martinsville, the runner up of the district, will take on Mt. Enterprise at 6:30 Tuesday night in Tenaha.

 

The Tenaha Tigers will be playing at 5:30 Saturday in the East Texas Playoff Preview at UT Tyler.

 

The Center Lady Rider and Timpson Lady Bear softball teams are playing in the Hudson Tournament thru Saturday; the Joaquin Lady Rams and Shelbyville Lady Dragons are in the Carthage Tournament; and Garrison Lady Bulldogs in the Longview Tourney.

 

Baseball scrimmage today, the Center Roughriders host Central Heights; and the Joaquin Rams are home to take Logansport.

 

Soccer today:  the Center Riders are home to play Nacogdoches in a district match, and the Lady Riders go to Nacogdoches. Games start with JV at 5:30.

 

Tenaha Girls Varsity Soccer will play in Hudson at 7 tonight. Tenaha’s “Visitor” vs Dallardsville Big Sandy.

 

A big college fishing tournament on Toledo Bend Saturday, as the FLW’s first Southern Conference tournament of the season takes place. Up to 50 college teams will be competing for a top award of $2,000 and a berth in the 2014 Southern Conference Invitational. Anglers will take off from San Miguel Park located at 381 San Miguel Road in Zwolle at 7:00 a.m. Weigh-in will be held at San Miguel Park starting at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Takeoff and weigh-in is free and open to the public.

The tournament is hosted by the Sabine River Authority.
