Friday’s schedule has Center at winless Carthage, Diboll going to Central and 1-9 Huntington’s at Jasper.

On the heels of Monday’s UIL biennial realignment announcement, Center ISD has released the Roughriders’ non-district football schedule for 2014, and it includes five games against reputable opponents. Center will open up Aug. 29 at Waskom; then have three home games, starting with Buna, Garrison and former district opponent Jasper. The final non-district game is at Hardin-Jefferson. The District 6 4A-Div. II schedule will includes games with Atlanta, Gladewater, Spring Hill, Tatum and Pleasant Grove. The exact order and sites will be determined after a meeting of the new district coaches and administrators in Center next Tuesday.

As for the new district Center will be competing in the next two seasons, Superintendent Dr. James Hockenberry said yesterday, the school district is excited. He added it should be very competitive week in and week out. Dr. Hockenberry said as the district received the news Monday he was quite surprised to have teams in the district that far north. Nevertheless, Center ISD is looking forward to Friday nights in the fall.

By the way, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, the Bible of Texas football, is saying Center’s new football district, 6 4A, Div. II, along with District 10-2A, Div. II, including San Augustine, Shelbyville and Joaquin, and District 11-3A, Div. II, with the likes of Garrison, Corrigan-Camden, Crockett, and Newton, have all received honorable mention as being the toughest districts in the state after the realignment announcement. Just so you know, the new district Carthage is in, Dist. 9 4A, Div. I, is the toughest in 4A. Carthage, Henderson, Palestine, and Kilgore.

Carthage High School will be presented with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy at 3:15 this afternoon, as part of the ninth annual MaxPreps Football Tour of Champions. Carthage finished No. 57 in the final rankings and is one of 50 schools
