Shuttle Columbia Anniversary Observance Saturday

Saturday will mark the 11th anniversary of the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster, and a moment of silence and release of nine balloons will take place at 7:45 Saturday morning at the Patricia Huffman Smith NASA Museum in Hemphill.

On Feb. 1, 2003, at 8 a.m., Columbia disintegrated over East Texas and Western Louisiana as it reentered Earth's atmosphere, killing all seven crew members. In addition, the two team members who were lost during the recovery efforts will be remembered.

This event is open to the public, and everyone can come out and join in.
