Register to Vote by Feb. 3

Here’s a reminder if you plan on voting in the March 4 Primary Election, and if you’re not already a registered voter, you have until next Monday, Feb 3 to register.

In Shelby County, you can register at County Clerk Allison Harbison’s office on the south-side of the Center Square; and in San Augustine, county residents need to see Election Administrator Deborah Woods in the El Camino Justice Center, 225 N Harrison in San Augustine.

Here are some other important primary election dates: February 18: First day to vote early in person in the March 4 primaries; February 21: Last day to submit an application for a ballot by mail for the primaries; February 28: Last day to vote early in person in the March 4 primaries. Be prepared to show proper ID before you can vote at the polls.

By the way, voters can still request a ballot by mail, and you can do so if you’re 65 or older; disabled; be out of the county on election day and during the period for early voting by personal appearance; or be confined in jail, but otherwise eligible.

By the way, Center Broadcasting will begin airing our Political Calendar on Tuesday, Feb. 4, thru primary election day, March 4. Local candidates have the opportunity to participate. If you’d like to have your name included, contact our business office at 598-3304.

Also, tomorrow will be the first day that candidates may apply for a place on the ballot for the May 10 general election. Check with your local city or school administration to see if an election is scheduled if you’re interested in entering a race.
