Local Sports Roundup 1/27/14

Some of the local high school basketball teams were able to get their scheduled games in Friday night, but the threat of icy roads, postponed others to Saturday.

 

The Center basketball Roughriders found the going tough in Diboll Friday night, as the Lumberjacks take a 61-41 win, dropping the Riders into a three-way tie at 6-2 a share of the lead in the District 20-3A standings. On Saturday, Central blasted previously once beaten Jasper, 75-53, to put Central and Jasper in the pile-up atop the district with Center. Diboll improves to 5-2, a half game behind the leaders. Hudson beat Huntington, 64-39.

 

The Lady Riders came up short in their game with the Diboll girls, losing, 76-31.

 

The Riders and Lady Riders have Tuesday night off. The District 20-3A schedule tomorrow night has Central at Carthage, Diboll at Huntington and Hudson at Jasper.

 

In District 22-1A, Div. 1, the Tenaha Tigers have made it a two-game lead for first in the standings, with an 80-70 win over the Shelbyville Dragons in a game played Saturday. Tenaha is 5-0, while Shelbyville drops into a three-way tie for second in the standings at 3-2 with Gary and Martinsville. Martinsville beat Gary, 41-24. The Joaquin Rams get their first district win, 54-45 over the Timpson Bears.

 

In girls’ action, The Shelbyville Lady Dragons improve to 7-0 defeating the Tenaha Lady Tigers, and the Joaquin Lady Rams beat the Timpson Lady Bears, 57-11. Joaquin goes to 4-3, and the Martinsville girls beat Gary, 41-10. There’s three games left on the girls’ district schedule.

 

As for the District 23-1A, Div. 1 boys’ race, the San Augustine Wolves beat in-county rival, the Broaddus Bulldogs, 71-41 Saturday, as the 4-1 Wolves remain a game back of front-running West Sabine, who’s 5-0, and beat Zavalla. Broaddus is 3-2, and 2-3 Brookeland defeats Pineywoods, 85-52.

 

District 19-2A boys’ games over the weekend, Central Heights over Garrison, 68-38, and Palestine Westwood beats Elkhart, 73-38. Crockett is 6-0, and Central Heights is now 5-2.

 

In girls’ action, state-ranked and undefeated Central Heights over Garrison, 55-44.
