San Augustine Man Jailed for Aggravated Sexual Assault of Teen

A San Augustine man was booked into the San Augustine County Jail earlier this week for a sex crime against a teenage girl last summer. 21-year old Brandon D. O’Shields was charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, stemming from an incident where he reportedly had consensual sex with a 13-year old in July 2013.

O’Shields turned himself in after learning a felony arrest warrant had been issued for him. He was released after posting $5,000 bail.

San Augustine County Chief Deputy Gary Cunningham said the alleged sexual encounter took place at O’Shields residence on Milam Street in San Augustine, and even though it was not forced, Texas criminal law states a minor under age 17 cannot legally give consent to have sex.

Cunningham says the case remains under investigation and that additional charges related to more child sex assault victims may be pending in San Augustine County.
