The Center Roughriders have fallen out of first place in the District 20-3A boys’ basketball standings, after a 38-33 loss to Jasper Friday night at Roughrider Gym. With Central’s 44-40 win over Hudson, that puts Central atop the district race alone at 4-0. Center drops into third place with the setback, a half-game back of 4-1Jasper in the standings. Diboll beat Carthage, 79-56 in Friday’s other district game. Diboll is 2-2, and Carthage drops to 0-4, tied with Huntington.

 

The Lady Riders picked up their first district win of the season with a 40-29 win over Jasper.

 

Tuesday night, the Riders and Lady Riders are home to play Carthage; Central goes to Diboll and Jasper goes to Huntington.

 

In boys’ District 22-1A, Div. I openers, Gary over Shelbyville, 55-53; Tenaha defeats Joaquin, 85-37; and Martinsville takes Timpson, 57-40.

Girls’ games Friday: Martinsville over Timpson, 57-40.

 

In girls’ action: the Joaquin Lady Rams come away with a 44-39 win over the Tenaha Lady Tigers, as Joaquin improves to 2-1, while Tenaha drops to 1-2 in the district race. The Martinsville Lady Pirates beat the Timpson Lady Bears, 51-19. Martinsville and Shelbyville lead the district at 3-0, after the Lady Dragons beat Gary. Timpson and Gary are 0-3.

 

Tomorrow night’s schedule has: Martinsville at Tenaha; Joaquin at Shelbyville; and Timpson at Gary.

 

First District 23-1A, Div. I boys’ games had: San Augustine beating Zavalla, 85-54; Broaddus defeats Pineywoods Academy; and West Sabine over Brookeland, 72-64.

Tuesday night’s game have San Augustine at Brookeland; Zavalla at Broaddus; and West Sabine at Pineywoods Academy.

District 19-2A boys’ action: Palestine Westwood over Garrison, 67-56; Crockett beats Woden, 50-44; and Central Heights had a bye.

In the district race, Crockett remains undefeated at 4-0; and Central Heights is 3-1; while Westwood and Elkhart are 2-2; Woden 1-2; and Garrison is 0-4.

 

Tuesday’s schedule: Elkhart at Central Heights, and Woden takes on Garrison.

 

Congratulations to Center High School Freshmen, Octavious Evans has been named to the MaxPreps 2013 Football Freshmen All-American Team. The 6'2", 175 pound Wide Receiver is one of only two athletes in the state of Texas to be recognized among the Nation's top athletes. MaxPreps represents schools across America in affiliation with CBS Sports. Evans racked up an impressive 67 receptions for 834 yards and 7 touchdowns during the 2013 Roughrider Football Season.
