In local sports,

 

All high school basketball teams will be in district action Friday night.

 

The district-leading Center Roughriders start a two-game homestand at Roughrider Gym tomorrow night as Jasper comes to town. The Bulldogs are just a half-game back of 3-0 Center and Central in the District 20-3A race. Sub-varsity action tips off at 5 p.m. Other district games Friday are Carthage at Diboll and Central at Hudson.

 

The Lady Riders are also home to play Jasper.

 

On tap in District 22-1A, Division I are Tenaha at Joaquin; Timpson at Martinsville and Gary at Shelbyville.

 

District 23-1A, Division I’s schedule has Zavalla at San Augustine; Broaddus at Pineywoods Academy in Lufkin; and Brookeland at West Sabine.

 

Meanwhile in District 19-2A, it’s Garrison at Palestine Westwood; Crockett at Woden; and Groveton at Central Heights. The Crockett boys lead the district race at 3-0, with Central Heights at 3-1.

 

A late score from Tuesday night’s basketball action, the Shelbyville Dragons beat Zavalla, 55-45.

 

Soccer action, the Center Lady Riders are in the Palestine Tournament today through Saturday, while the Riders go to Chapel Hill Friday.

 

Shelby County Youth Basketball League will have a final sign up from 6pm - 7pm tonight at the Center Middle School Gymnasium, and from 6pm - 7pm Friday the Center High School Gymnasium. Fee is $35.
