Asleep at the Wheel to perform in Carthage

The Kings of Texas Swing, Asleep at the Wheel, will perform in concert at the Carthage Civic Center on Saturday, Sept. 14. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. concert.

The Grammy Award-winning “Kings of Texas Swing” will perform in the first of a Performing Arts Series sponsored by the Fine & Performing Arts Department at Panola College. Tickets may be purchased in person or by phone through the Panola County Chamber of Commerce, 300 W. Panola, 903-693-6634. The link to purchase general admission seats online is http://outhousetickets.com/Venue/Carthage_Civic_Center/. Reserved floor seats are $35, and general admission seats are $25.

Collaborating with Panola College on the show are Main Street, the City of Carthage, the Panola County Chamber of Commerce and the Texas Country Music Hall of Fame.

Local musical group, In the Jeans, will open the show. Sisters Rachel and Sydney Gee along with Bob Gonzales play a variety of instruments including guitar, harmonica, violin and percussion to produce a folk-music sound.

Headlining the show, Asleep at the Wheel, has won nine Grammy Awards over the group’s 42-year history. The band continues to introduce American roots music and the western swing genre to a new generation on tour.

When the doors open at 5:30, the Panola College Band and Chorale will sell barbecue sandwich meals for $7 each as a fundraiser for the Fine Arts Department.
