On Wednesday, January 16, Center Police Department responded to a call at 1207 Shelbyville Street in reference to an unresponsive child. Ace EMS arrived on scene and transported the child to Shelby Regional Medical Center. Justice of the Peace Maxie Eaves pronounced the child deceased at approximately 10:15 a.m. The child has been identified as five month old Keilly Hoyt of Center. At approximately 11:10 p.m, the mother, 29 year old Shakeitha Cartwright, was arrested and charged with Murder. Carwright's bond has been set at $500,000. Cartwright is currently in the Shelby County jail. The body has been sent to South West Institute of Forensics in Dallas and results are pending. On January 17, the offense of Murder has been upgraded to Capital Murder due to the severity of the injuries and the added information received regarding the autopsy results.
