San Augustine County Commissioners’ Court updates

The new security system, recently approved by the San Augustine County Commissioners’ Court, has been installed, and is now operational in county offices. Chief Deputy Gary Cunningham told commissioners at their meeting last week the “panic alarm system”, similar to those found in banks, will upon activation, broadcast the location, saying assistance is needed, but does not give the nature of the issue. Cunningham said the new security system is not intended to replace the phone or 9-1-1. He added the system will be helpful for county offices and employees that could be confronted with situations where officers need to respond quickly. Also at their meeting, commissioners approved bonds for elected officials for 2013, including the newly elected Pct. 3 County Commissioner Jeff Holloway, who’s replacing current commissioner Dale Mixon. County Treasurer Pam Smith advised the court that some of the financial balances were beginning to show deficit numbers, but should turnaround as tax statements were starting to go out, and would look better over the next couple of month.
