Independence Bowl kicks off on Friday

While the teams get ready for this year's Independence Bowl on Friday, so are many Shreveport-Bossier businesses. As of Wednesday afternoon the bowl had sold about 42,000 tickets. This year one of the teams, University of Louisiana-Monroe, is from just a few hours away. That will likely mean more people at the game, but there's also the chance lots of people will make it a day trip instead of staying the whole weekend. The City of Shreveport says it costs them about $50,000 to put on the Independence Bowl. The Convention and Tourism Bureau says their last study, done in 2006, showed the I-bowl brought in about $5.7 million in direct spending to the Shreveport-Bossier area.
