Shelby County Commissioners' Court results

The Shelby County Commissioners' Court convened yesterday to discuss and consider items on the agenda.  The following items were approved:  to pay monthly expenses and amend budget line items; to maintain the County Retirement Plan for Plan Year 2013 with no changes made; bonds on all newly elected and re-elected Shelby County officials; a bid by Judy Guidry of Jasper for $1,000 for property #R24723 located in the Ritter Everett survey in the Rolling Hills subdivision; and Mileage reimbursement for the Tax Assessor Collector and Treasurer.  Again these are the items on the agenda that were approved.  However, discussion on the overtime and comp time policy of Shelby County was discussed and no action was taken.  It was noted that the over the past year, the Shelby County Sheriffs office has racked up at least $100,000 overtime pay at a rate of time and half. While the overtime was budgeted and is to be expected with the holidays, the court is concerned and believes it should be much lower.  Also, it was noted that according to the personnel policy, anyone who works overtime must take time off in order to compensate for the additional hours worked. This portion of the personnel policy has not been enforced as stated and therefore will be an issue incoming Sheriff Willis Blackwell will have to address. Again, no action was taken on the overtime and comp time policy of Shelby County.
