4-H Kids Sewing Day Camps to be Offered

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service - Shelby County will be hosting their annual 4-H Kids Sewing Sensations Day Camps (beginner and advanced) in July in Center, Texas.  This program is open to all youth ages 9 through 18, and you do not have to be a member of 4-H to participate.

Advanced Sewing Sensations – (for youth with previous experience from last year’s sewing camp or with other machine sewing experience), will be held July 8-10th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for grades 3 – 12.  Participants will learn advanced sewing machine techniques and will make and design their own lap quilt to keep and showcase in the upcoming Poultry Festival Creative Arts Show.  We will also be working on our Quilt of Valor project to make quilts for Shelby County military veterans.  Cost is $20 per child and class is limited to 10 students.

Beginning Sewing Sensations – (for youth with no experience using a sewing machine), will be held July 29 – August 2nd from 9:30 – 11:30 am for grades 3-12.  Participants will learn how to use a sewing machine and will make a pillowcase, tote bag, and other projects to showcase in the upcoming Poultry Festival Creative Arts Show.  Cost is $15 per child and class is limited to 10 students.

Sewing machines and fabric for quilt fronts will be provided for the participants.  You may also bring your own machine if desired.  Grandmothers, moms and other adults willing to help with re-threading and other small sewing tasks are encouraged to attend the classes with participants (sewing experience not required).
