San Augustine County Commissioners’ Court

At the San Augustine County Commissioners’ Court meeting this week, commissioners approved a request by County Judge Sammye Johnson to proceed with research and available funding to move the current location of the adult probation office from the old jail on the courthouse square, to a location between the Sheriff and J-P offices. Judge Johnson said security was her main concern in making the request. She noted there was only one way in and out of the old jail building, which posed a potentional security risk for county employees. She also requested “panic buttons” be installed at the new location, when that does occur.  San Augustine County Commissioners also gave approval to County Auditor JoAnna Johnson to have a partition wall installed in her office in the courthouse. The room was once used as the Commissioners’ Court Room. Ms. Johnson said funding from the project would come from left over courthouse restoration funds. A bid was submitted by Ms. Johnson for $3,600 for the partition renovation, which would also need approval from the Historical Commission. In addition, commissioners approved a request by Auditor Johnson to return using Tiller & Company as the county’s external auditor.
