Arson Investigation at Walmart Superstore

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

UPDATE:

 

The Nacogdoches Walmart has partial reopened following the fire. According to a Walmart employee only the grocery has reopened.  

 

 

NACOGDOCHES,TX (June 10, 2019) Just before 1:00 a.m. Nacogdoches Police and Fire Department personnel responded to a fire at 4810 North st which is also known as Walmart Superstore. Firefighters located a fire in the clothing section of the store that employees were attempting to extinguish with fire extinguishers.  Fire crews were able to get the fire extinguished. At this time no individuals are believed to have been injured as a result of the fire.  

 

Fire and Police Department Personnel determined the fire was a result of arson and immediately began an investigation to determine who the suspect was.  Officers located a person of interest still on the scene.  During the course of the investigation, Officers developed probable cause to believe this individual was the person who intentionally set the fire and placed him into custody on the charge of Arson F-2.  The suspect was identified to be Scott Gilbert 38 years of age from Arkansas. The suspect is currently at the Nacogdoches County Jail. 

 

The store suffered extensive smoke damage and is currently closed.  At this time it is unknown when the store will be reopened.
