San Augustine, Texas was hit by a terrible storm. A tornado stuck on April 24 at around 11:20 p.m. and ravaged multiple businesses in the City of San Augustine. The washateria was completely obliterated, the Family Dollar caved in, along with multiple other convenience stores.
Power was lost and the emergency crews have been running off generators. CHI St. Luke's hospital lost generator power for a time before having it restored. According to
Brittney Johnson with the Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative as of 4:30 p.m. April 25, 2019, the number of residents without power is 1,246.
According to TxDOT State Highway 21, East from US 96 to State Highway 147 in San Augustine will be closed for this evening. In Shelby County, there was a road closer announced by Shelby County Commissioner Pct. 3 Charles Barr's office. County Road 3373 will be closed due to continued rain.
No fatalities or serious injuries were reported by officials during Center Broadcasting Company's investigation. However, stay tuned for updates as this is subject to change with time.
