The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Nacogdoches man on three counts of Indecency with a Child. The investigation started last week, when an Investigator with NCSO was able to uncover cyber messages that were sent back and forth from the suspect to the child. The messages revealed that the suspect was being a sexual predator and had solicited the victim.

Investigators reached out to the parents of the child to alert them of the activity that was taking place. A sane exam and forensic interview was conducted with the victim who is 15 years of age or less at the Harold’s House in Nacogdoches. Information obtained from the victim confirmed other evidence that NCSO had gathered in the case. A warrant was then issued for the suspect, Shady Roberts who was arrested yesterday afternoon by NCSO deputies.

Sheriff Bridges stated that the Investigator is assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force with the Texas Attorney General’s Office. The investigator was able to obtain a cyber tip that led to the discovery that Shady Roberts was having an active relationship with a minor. Without the discovery of this information, this victim may have continuously been abused by this sexual predator without it ever being reported.

Shady Roberts 24 years of age was booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail on three counts of Indecency of a Child a 2nd felony. At the time of his arrest, more evidence was found on his person that showed him to have ties with the victim. Roberts is currently on probation in Nacogdoches County.

NCSO will continue to be proactive and work with the internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force to help protect our youth. The aims of the ICAC task forces are to catch distributors of child pornography on the Internet, whether delivered on line or solicited on line and distributed through other channels and to catch sexual predator who solicit victims on the Internet through chat rooms, forums and other methods.
