Local School Sports Update

At the UIL State Cross-Country Meet held last Saturday in Round Rock, the Shelbyville Lady Dragons finished in 12th place. Congratulations to the Shelbyville Lady Dragons for qualifying for the state meet.

 

Dave Campbell’s Texas High School Football state rankings are out for the first-round of the playoffs, and the Center Roughriders have dropped out the Class 3A poll after last week’s loss to Jasper. Carthage is No. 10, Jasper 22nd, while Navasota remains the No. 1 Class 3A team.

 

The Joaquin Rams continued to hold onto the No. 3 ranking in Class 1A, Div. I, while the San Augustine Wolves have moved up two spots to No. 8 this week. Mason is the top team in the division.

 

As for Class 1A, Div. II, Munday is still No. 1. In Class 2A, Div. I, Cameron Yoe retains the top spot, while Newton is No. 2; and in 2A, Div. II, Refugio is No. 1, and Arp No. 8.

 

Class 4A’s No. 1 is Pearland Dawson, John Tyler at No. 2, and in 5A, Katy is still the No. 1 team.

 

High School Football Playoffs, Bi-District Round This Week:

 

(8-2) Center plays (7-3) Fairfield, 7:30 Friday at Lindale. The winner has the winner of the Lorena/Rockdale game in the second round. Tickets for the game will be sold at the gate, only. Adult tickets are $6, students $4. Passes accepted include: Retiree, and Texas High School Coaches Association, as well as 19-3A district pass, 20-3A district pass.

 

Center Broadcasting will have live coverage of the Center-Fairfield playoff game Friday night beginning with the Rider Stadium Pre-game Show at 7 on KDET, and streaming online at cbc-radio.com.

 

(9-1) Timpson plays (8-2) West Sabine, 7:30 Thursday in Center. Winner plays Mart in the next round. Tickets for Thursday's game in Center are $5-Adults, $3-Students at the gate. District and senior citizen passes are accepted. Timpson will be visitors.

 

(7-3) Garrison takes on (4-6) Paul Pewitt, 7:30 Friday in Carthage. The winner advances to play Centerville.

 

(8-2) Carthage plays (7-3) Palestine, 7:30 Friday in Lufkin. The winner has the winner of Waco LaVega/Taylor.

High school basketball action on top tonight: the Center Lady Riders will be in Timpson to play the Lady Bears; the San Augustine Lady Wolves go to Hemphill; the Shelbyville Dragons and Lady Dragons head to Brookeland; the Tenaha Lady Tigers go to Cartha ge; and Woden at Martinsville.
