Loop 500 in Center is growing

Loop 500 in Center is about to grow. A groundbreaking ceremony will take place at 10:30 Friday morning for the Loop 500 Extension Project in the City of Center. The $11.9 million project is being funded by the City of Center, the Texas Transportation Commission and the Texas Department of Transportation Lufkin District. The 3.3-mile northeast section extension will extend from U.S. 96 north to State Highway 7 East. This section of Loop 500 will be a two-lane highway with paved shoulders. Friday morning’s groundbreaking event will feature local and state elected officials, along with TxDOT representatives discussing the significance of the loop extension project before breaking ground for construction. The groundbreaking is being held at the intersection of Highway 7 East and Loop 500 in Center.
