Center Broadcasting Community Spotlight of the Week

It’s now time for the Center Broadcasting Community Spotlight of the Week. This Week’s Community Spotlight will be shedding light on a creative man who is no stranger to Art. We would like to highlight Mr. Woodrow Foster. Woodrow was born and raised in Stephenville, Texas. Woodrow started out as a writer and just so happens had an adoring fan from Center. This fan corresponded with Woodrow and overtime a relationship developed. Eventually in 1936, this adoring fan Lorene Hughes became Lorene Foster. Even though jobs were hard to find, Woodrow had a passion for Art. Woodrow worked for a movie theater in Seagraves, Texas painting movie signs. He then moved on to Leonard Brothers Department store in Fort Worth, where he worked in the Art Department painting signs and advertisements. Later on during World War 2, Woodrow worked for Consolidated Aircraft Factory which later became General Dynamics. There Woodrow illustrated all of the pilots handbooks and maintenance manuals for all of the aircraft. When the war ended, out of work, Woodrow and his wife Lorene moved to Center. Woodrow has since painted over 1000 paintings and countless baptistries for churches. Thanks to former State Representative Bill Haley, Woodrow was named the Texas State Artist for 1991-1992. Woodrow has numerous taught Art classes and held demonstrations for over 30 years. Woodrow still draws cartoons in his free time for fun. We want to thank Mr. Woodrow Foster for being an inspiration as well as for providing a positive example for others to follow. November 3rd, Woodrow Foster will be celebrating his one-hundredth birthday.
