Shelby county Grill FEST
Winners Announced
 
The Shelby County Grill Fest Barbecue Cook-off was held Saturday, June 9 at the Windham Civic Center in Center, Texas, with cook teams from across east Texas and western Louisiana vying for over $6,700 in prize money and the Grand Champion trophy along with bragging rights.  
 
The barbecue cook-off was presented by Farmers State Bank and sanctioned by the Lone Star Barbecue Society. The event featured five cooking categories including beans, brisket, chicken, ribs and dessert.  
 
We are pleased to announce the top three winners in the five categories are:
 
Chicken Category:
1st Place - All Smoked Up from Jacksonville, Texas.  Head cook was Oley Willis.
2nd Place – Son N Law BBQ from Mt. Pleasant, Texas.  Head cook was Brandon Fulcher.
3rd Place – East Texas Smokers from Timpson, Texas.  Head cook was Anna Bryce.
 
Pork Ribs Category:
1st Place – Son N Law BBQ from Mt. Pleasant, Texas.  Head cook was Brandon Fulcher.
2nd Place – Gitcha Creek Country Cookers from Rusk, Texas.  Head cook was David Chandler.
3rd Place – Hound Dawg Harris from San Augustine, Texas.  Head cook was Robert Harris.
 
Brisket 
1st Place – Shelby County Outlaw Cookers from Center, Texas.  Head cook was Rachel Moorman.
2nd Place – All Smoked Up from Jacksonville, Texas.  Head cook was Oley Willis.
3rd Place – Tipsy Texan from Tenaha, Texas.  Head cook was Joshua Campbell.
 
Pinto Beans:
1st Place – Shelby County Outlaw Cookers from Center, Texas.  Head cook was Rachel Moorman.
2nd Place – Farmers State Bank from Center, Texas.  Head cook was Joey Lawson.
3rd Place – Hound Dawg Harris from San Augustine, Texas.  Head cook was Robert Harris.
 
Dessert:
1st Place – Hound Dawg Harris from San Augustine, Texas.  Cook:  Robert Harris.
2nd Place – East Texas Smokers from Timpson, Texas.  Cook:  Anna Bryce.
3rd Place – Shelby County Outlaw Cookers from Center, Texas.  Cook:  Preston Whitney.
 
All Smoked Up cook team, led by Oley Willis took the Grand Champion trophy at the 2018 Shelby County Grill Fest and the Tipsy Texan cook team with Joshua Campbell was awarded the Reserve Grand Champion trophy Saturday, June 9, 2018.
 
The 42 Tournament and Washer Pitching Competition were sponsored by Shelby Savings Bank.  Shelby Johnson and Evelyn Hufferd were the winners of the 42 Tournament.  Josh McAdams and Josh Jones were the winners of the Washer Pitching Competition and a special thank you to these men for donating their prize money back to the cookers. 
 
Awards were sponsored by the City of Center. Gold Sponsors were Tyson Foods and Windham Civic Center.  Entertainment was sponsored by Rapid Payday & Title Loans and the Judge’s Table was sponsored by Pineywoods Beverage.
 
Silver sponsors were Mathews Real Estate, Ace Hardware of East Texas, Watson and Sons Funeral Home, 4C Electrical Services, B & S A/C and Heating and Executive Inn and Suites Joaquin.
