On May 10th, 2018, at approximately 10 p.m., Deputies with DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop on Highway 84 near Highway 481 outside Mansfield, LA.  The deputy initiating the stop observed a truck carrying a trailer traveling well below the speed limit, impeding the flow of traffic on the roadway.   The driver of the vehicle is identified as Troy Byrd (W/M - DOB:  02/02/1964) of Tucuncari, NM, and a passenger, Danielle Hines (W/F - DOB:  09/13/1971) of Denham Springs, LA.  Byrd stated to the deputy that he was enroute to New Mexico and when asked he responded that there were no guns, drugs, or otherwise illegal possessions in the vehicle.

During the search, deputies located a loaded 9mm pistol from under the driver's seat as well as a container with a green leafy substance on the passenger side.  Also located during the search was a small bag containing a metal pipe and a pack of zigzag rolling papers.  The DeSoto Parish K9 Unit arrived on the scene at which time Byrd was asked once again if there were any drugs, guns, or otherwise illegal possessions in the trailer.  Byrd told officers there were none and gave consent for the trailer to be searched.  Upon searching the trailer, K9 Deputy Rex was able to locate a large bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana next to several guns and other drug paraphernalia.  At this time, both Byrd and Hines were taken into custody and transported to be booked at the DeSoto Parish Detention Center.

Troy Byrd and Danielle Hines were both booked on the following charges:

Possession of Marijuana
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance
