Two Vehicle Fatality Wreck in Joaquin

 

 

SHELBY COUNTY, TX – On March 17, Texas Department of Public Safety
(DPS) Troopers investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on SH 84 in the City Of
Joaquin.
 
The preliminary crash investigation indicates at approximately 1:50 p.m., a 2005
Freightliner truck tractor semi-trailer was stopped facing west at a red traffic signal
on US 84 when a 2014 Chevrolet passenger car reportedly failed to control speed
and struck the rear of the trailer being towed by the Freightliner.
 
The driver of the Freightliner is identified as Curtis Johnson, 31, from Center, TX.
Johnson was not reportedly injured during the crash.
 
The driver of the Chevrolet is identified as John Ballinger, 52, from Joaquin, TX.
Ballinger was transported to a Center hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
This crash remains under investigation. No additional information is available at
