SHELBY COUNTY, TX – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated this morning 3-20-18 a two vehicle major crash on US 96 about one mile north

of Center.

 

The preliminary crash investigation indicates at approximately 10 a.m., a 2006 Kenworth truck tractor semi-trailer transporting timber was traveling north on US 96 in the inside lane. A 2012 Freightliner was also traveling north on US 96 in the outside lane. The Kenworth reportedly changes lanes when unsafe and struck the Freightliner. The Freightliner then drove off the roadway to the right where it struck a tree and overturned and then caught on fire.  

 

The driver of the 2006 Kenworth is identified as Daniel Stanley, 53, from Huntington, TX. Stanley was not injured during the crash.  

 

The driver of the 2012 Freightliner is identified a Robert Jones, 58, from Beaumont, TX. Jones was transported to a local hospital for treatment.  This crash remains under investigation. No additional information is available at this time.
