TxDOT UPDATE

LUFKIN - Crews are scheduled to pre-treat roads and bridges throughout the Lufkin District on Sunday and Monday, ahead of possible rain and freezing precipitation that is forecast for Monday night and Tuesday morning.

The brine treatment that will be applied to overpasses, major structures and bridges will discourage ice or snow from sticking to the pavement in the case of winter precipitation. The treatment will be applied in each county and crews will continue to respond to snow or ice conditions as needs arise and roads allow.

Motorists are urged to use caution on bridges and overpasses, since these are the first to freeze.
"We will again take the precaution to protect motorists by pre-treating roads and bridges with the anticipation of freezing precipitation," said Rhonda Oaks, public information officer. "We advise motorists to be extra cautious and alert if they must drive Monday night and Tuesday morning. Watch for icy patches and reduce speed."

The Lufkin District will continue to monitor the National Weather Service for updates and potential winter weather conditions for East Texas. Safety of the traveling public is priority and crews will continue to work to prepare and respond to weather conditions.
