San Augustine Man Arrested on Murder Charge

 

On October 20th 2017, The San Augustine County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call at about a man being shot and laying in the road on County Road 101. A Sheriff’s Deputy arrived and discovered the body of Juan Eduardo Santana, 33, laying facedown with two gunshots to his upper body.
 
Deputy’s with the Sheriff’s Office made contact with witnesses who told Deputy’s that the suspect was a black male wearing a bark shirt and grey sweat pants had been in an argument with Juan when the suspect pulled a small black handgun and fired two rounds striking Juan in the shoulder and the neck. The suspect then fled the location driving a red Chev S 10 extra cab Bering Texas LP # DKW-6207 truck with a black hood.  
 
Texas DPS Troops located the suspect vehicle and where able to take the suspect Jerry McCoy into custody and recover the suspected murder weapon without incident.  
 
The San Augustine County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by San Augustine Police Department, Texas Rangers and the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol in this investigation and would like to thank all agency for their assistance in this investigation.
 
According to his arrest record he was arrested with the following charges: Murder, Unlawfull Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Unlawful Carrying Weapon.  He has bonds totaling 1,030,000.
