2 Dead in Wreck in San Augustine Co

 

SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY, TX – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
Troopers investigated yesterday evening a two vehicle double fatality crash at the
intersection of US 96 and SH 147.
 
The preliminary crash investigation indicates at approximately 7:45 p.m., a 2008
Dodge pickup traveling northeast on SH 147 disregarded the stop sign at US 96
and drove into the path of a 2008 Chevrolet SUV. After the collision both the
vehicles caught fire and partially burned.
 
The driver of the Chevrolet is identified as Gene Miller, 30, and a 16-year-old
passenger in the vehicle is identified as Alexia Moreno, both from Bronson. Miller
and Moreno were pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.
 
The driver of the Dodge is identified as Matthew Williams, 34, from Hemphill.
Williams was treated for minor injuries at the scene and arrested for intoxication
manslaughter. He was transported to the San Augustine County Jail.
 
This crash remains under investigation. No additional information is available at
this time.
