Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle wanted to inform the public of an explosion on a
well site that occurred in Mansfield, LA yesterday, April 18, 2017. DeSoto
Parish Sheriff's Office received notification from 911 about a well
explosion on Walker Road in Mansfield, LA around 11:46 a.m. Deputies
responded to the scene with DeSoto EMS and DeSoto Fire District 8. It was
found that a crew was working on the site, operated by Aethon Energy, to
clean up damage caused during a recent storm. During their cleanup effort,
one of the tanks on the site exploded causing injuries to three of the crew
members. One subject was transported via Life Air with moderate injuries,
one subject was transported via ambulance to a local medical facility with
minor injuries, and one subject was pronounced deceased upon arrival. We do
not believe any hazardous material was released during the incident and no
residential or commercial structures were in danger during or following the
explosion due to the remote location.
