Center Airport to be Closed...

Starting May 18, the Center Municipal Airport will be closed to allow for a major lighting project. The airport is set to re-open for weekend use on June 18 and will completely re-open on August 18.  The City is the recipient of a $1.1 million award from TxDOT to complete the first phase of a Capital Improvement Program. This project will replace the old runway lighting with a Medium Intensity Runway Lighting (MIRL) and a PAPI-2 systems. The airport’s beacon will also be refurbished. The aircraft parking area by the fuel pumps will be excavated and replaced with 8 inches of concrete.  Finally, some minor drainage improvements will be completed. "Some of our airport users made considerable donations to this project,” explained Center Mayor David Chadwick. “Their generosity allowed the City to make its match to the State to get this project started, and the City extends our appreciation to them.”
