Good Bye Fillies, Sophomores Leaving

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the last game of the season, the Fillies will honoring be 6 Sophomores. In one of the best seasons in 10 years, the following sophomores have been a great contribution to the success of the team.
 
Tameal Jones (13): Tameal was a 1 year Fillie, having transferred from UT-Tyler this past fall. She led her JV team in her 21 game appearances in assists and steals. This year for the Fillies Jones has played in 11 games and is averaging 4.1 PPG while shooting 90% from the free-throw line. She is a big time 6th man and is not only a point guard on the court, but off the court as well. She plans on continuing her basketball career at the next level, and plans to pursue a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Jones is a Tyler, Texas native, and is the oldest of 3 brothers and sisters.
 
Charlynn Perry (3): Charlynn Perry joined the Fillies after high school from LBJ, in Austin, Texas. In her first year as a Fillie, she averaged 7.1 PPG and shot 35% from behind the 3-point line while playing in 28 games, starting 8. This year, she has improved in her scoring, averaging 9.2 PPG playing in all 29 games. She boosted her career high this year to 21 points against Kilgore College. Charlynn plans on majoring in Kinesiology and continuing her basketball career.
 
Genesis Rivera (21): Genesis Rivera struggled in her first year as a freshman, due to a language barrier and a bit of shyness. Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, the Spanish speaking native emerged as a sophomore, becoming one of the Fillies leading scorers and rebounders. This year, she averages 12.9 PPG and is shooting 53% from the field and brings down 5.1 rebounds/game. Genesis has 482 points in her career as a Fillie. She plans on studying Journalism and continuing her basketball career.
 
Denasia Watson (12): Denasia Watson was dubbed the Captain of this year's team exemplifying great leadership on and off the court. In her first year as a Fillie, she didn't see much playing time but was still a key assets in what was to return the next year. This season, she has played in all 29 games, starting all but 1. She is averaging 6.6 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game as well. Watson plans on majoring in Kinesiology and Education while also continuing her basketball career.
 
Takyra Simpson (Manager): Takyra was the teams manager for one season and was in charge of team activities and organizing team practices. She took charge of supplies and was also a practice clock keeper. She plans on continuing her education while getting a degree in Business Administration. She will be walking in the Spring.
 
Shantivia Grey (Manager): Shantivia "TV" Grey is a two-year manager and was a great help to the team. She attended every single home and away game, and oversaw supplies and camera operations. She plans on continuing her education while majoring in Kinesiology and will be walking in the summer.
 
Please make sure to catch the last home game of the season, March 4th, at 2:00 p.m in A.J. Gymnasium. The Sophomores will be joined by friends and family as they walk on their home floor, one final time.
