Panola College hosts Rodeo Olympics

The Panola College Rodeo Team’s 2016 Rodeo Olympics brought smiles and
laughter to about 75 area children on Thursday, Sept. 22 at Cattleman’s
Arena. Children from Carthage and Gary school districts had a chance to
learn the tricks of the rodeo trade from the expert cowboys and cowgirls on
the Panola College Rodeo Team.

The children didn’t just watch a rodeo; they were in the arena with the
college students, one-on-one, practicing the art of rodeo. These children
practiced roping and riding, including taking rides around the arena on a
real horse. Afterward, the Panola College cowboys and cowgirls put on a
demonstration rodeo for the children.

Brandy Holloway, Panola College Vocational Nursing administrative
assistant, helped organize the event with Rodeo Coach Jeff Collins and
others. Stillwaters Cowboy Church served water, snacks and lunch, donated
and prepared by Denise and Robert Fugler, owners of Fugler’s Feed Trough
and Market. Emily Zabcik, faculty adviser for the Phi Theta Kappa honor
society, and members of that organization were also on hand to assist.
