The San Augustine Chamber of Commerce welcomes a new Executive Director!

Kelly Camp is filling the vacancy left when Tasha Byrd recently joined
the Mission Dolores team. Kelly is originally from San Augustine and her family settled in the county in the 1860s.

After attending Lufkin schools, Kelly graduated from the University of
Houston at Clear Lake and then earned a Masters in Tourism Science from
Texas A&M University in 2002.  During the oil and gas boom she managed
contracts in the Land departments of Enterprise Products and DCP Midstream
pipeline companies.  Most recently, she was the Senior Manager of Land
Administration for EQT Corporation in Pittsburgh, PA.  While at EQT she sat
on a number of committees, including Innovation and Community Outreach, and
was selected as their attendee for the 2014-15 Women’s Executive Leadership
Program at Duquesne University.  With the downturn in the energy industry
she gladly returned to San Augustine to escape those cold northern winters.

“San Augustine has always felt like home to me, and I am honored to have
this opportunity.  The Chamber of Commerce model represents the Spirit of
Enterprise, protecting and promoting the local community.  A recent study
by the Schapiro Group found that 49% of consumers were more likely to think
favorably of a local business if it was a member of the local Chamber— and
80% were more likely to purchase a product or service from a Chamber member.
This credibility and show of community support connects more customers to
our membership.  Not everyone knows that individuals and families can also
join the chamber to enjoy the networking and camaraderie, and memberships
are very affordable, starting as low as $15 per year.”

Having owned several small businesses, including the Houston Travelhost
franchise and a travel agency, she also understands their needs, and is
planning a workshop for them in November, once the dust settles from the
Sassafrass Festival on October 29th.  The workshop will be free to all
chamber members.

Kelly and her husband John, who married at The Columns in San Augustine in
2008, are looking forward making many new friends in the area.
