The 2016 Junior Boys & Dixie Boys World Series will be held in Pineville, Louisiana. The City of
Pineville presented a bid on August 5, 2014 that was unanimously approved by the Board of Directors of Dixie Boys Baseball, Inc. The tournaments will be held August 6-10, 2016.
Dixie Boys Baseball www.dixie.org/boys will celebrate its 60th anniversary with the event to be held in Pineville. The organization, established in 1957 in Alexandria, Louisiana has a rich heritage of providing youth with the opportunity to play baseball. Approximately thirty-thousand (30,000)
participants are involved with the program each year,
J. Sandy Jones, Commissioner/CEO commented; “We were very pleased to have the Honorable
Clarence Fields, Mayor of the City of Pineville in attendance for the bid presentation. His attendance, along with that of staff members, allowed us to witness first-hand the commitment that is being made for our 2016 Junior Dixie Boys and Dixie Boys World Series events. Twenty four teams will participate in the events, all with the hopes of claiming a World Series championship. Planning is already underway and we look forward to working with the City of Pineville staff as well as the local host committee. This should prove to be an outstanding event for all in attendance.”
Mayor Clarence R. Fields stated: "What an honor for the City of Pineville and all of Central Louisiana to host this very special event! To have an opportunity to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of its founding and to return to where it all started, is an honor and challenge we are all taking very seriously! It's a great opportunity for our community to join together to celebrate the history of Dixie Baseball, while maybe introducing it for the first time to kids and families who aren't currently a part of our local leagues."Tournament play will be conducted at the Pineville Ward Nine Sportsplex. The state of the art facility is equipped with eight baseball fields. This sports complex is owned and operated by the Ward 9 Recreation District. The site is comprised of ball fields (baseball and softball), soccer fields, press boxes, concession/restroom buildings, playground facilities, additional amenities, and more than adequate parking facilities.
