Timpson ISD Bear Update
5/4/2016

Bond Election Information – If the TISD bond passes, one of the projects is a new Vocational/Technical Education building with four classrooms.  The district will be able to offer more certification classes that will allow students to be job ready upon high school graduation and prepared to enter the job market.  Courses that could be offered that would lead to certification are General Office, Marketable Skills, Microsoft Office, Medic First Aid CPR/AED Compliance, Petroleum Technology I. Petroleum Technology II, Residential/Commercial Electrician, Welding-Basic, and Welding-Intermediate, Microcomputer Software Operator, Microcomputer Support Specialist, Digital Media Design and Development, Personal Computer Technical Support, Heating and Air Conditioning and Natural Gas Compression.  The certification can involve taking up to seven courses.  The classroom portion of the classes can be taken online in the technology classroom located in the vocational/technical building.  The technology classroom will also allow more students to take concurrent college level classes earning both high school and college credit at the same time.  High School students can earn up to 48 college credit hours and earn an associate’s degree while still in high school.  Presently those taking college credit classes online are in the high school library which prevents access for other students needing to use the library.  The technology center would also provide students who would like to take classes that the district cannot provide because there are not enough students to justify making a class for or the district does not have a teacher certified to teach the class the students want to take, the student can take the class online using the Texas Virtual School Network.  The TVSN offers classes taught by teachers in other school districts to be accessed by students over the computer in their home districts.  The technology classroom will also allow students to take courses they failed or did not have the opportunity to take because they moved to Timpson from another school district.  This allows students who pass the course to graduate within four years of entering high school with their class.  Remediation and enrichment classes will also be available to students who need extra help.  The technology classroom makes learning more accessible and will provide educational opportunities TISD students have not had access to in the past.
