Construction Project in San Augustine

A construction project in San Augustine is scheduled to begin this week that will improve safety and maneuverability along US 96. Representatives from Moore Brothers, contractor for the project, and other sub-contractors met with TxDOT officials in a pre-construction meeting that signaled the beginning of the $7.3 million project. The meeting was held at the Lufkin District's Nacogdoches Area Office. The project will extend for 3.8 miles along US 96 from the Shelby County line to FM 3451 in San Augustine County. The project includes adding passing lanes and reconstructing pavement, with work scheduled to be completed in about five months, weather permitting.
Motorists are urged to obey all signage throughout the construction area and be prepared for delays. Flaggers and pilot cars could be used through the work area as construction progresses.
The project is designed to improve mobility and allow for additional ease of access along US 96. Motorists should prepare to obey speed limits and reduce speed in the construction zone. Traffic fines double when workers are present. For more information, contact Rhonda.Oaks@txdot.gov<mailto:Rhonda.OaksDonaldson@txdot.gov> or (936) 633-4395.
