Tenaha Holiday Hoops Enshrines 1st Class for Hall of Fame

Over the last seven Christmas vacations, Tenaha ISD has been the home to one of the richest basketball tournament fields in Texas.  Thousands of fans have enjoyed state tournament caliber basketball over the years where amazing teams, players, and coaches have thrilled crowds with intense competition and quality of play.  This year, 38 teams came to Deep East Texas to compete for the coveted Crystal Cup Trophy given to the tournament champion.  17 of the 38 competing teams entered the tournament recognized by the polls as state ranked in both the girls and boys divisions.

For five of those seven years, a mainstay of the championship trophy presentation has been the Kountze Lions.  Holiday Hoops tournament directors were proud to enshrine Lions Head Coach Duane Joubert into the inaugural class of inductees.  Since the tournament’s inception in 2009, Joubert’s Lions have appeared in five tournament finals and won each of those.  They also have a Runner Up and 5th place trophy under his watch.

The Lions have wowed Special Events Center crowds with their high intensity and pace of play as well as their amazing effort and will to compete.  Each are traits that can be attributed to their Head Coach and Tenaha Holiday Hoops Hall of Fame inductee, Duane Joubert.

Joining Coach Joubert in the 1st Hall of Fame Inductee Class are two amazing High School Basketball players and athletes.  Kountze’s Grayland Arnold leaves Holiday Hoops as a four-time All-Tournament selection and one time MVP.  Over his Holiday Hoops career, the Lions’ guard has led the Lions to two tournament Championships and has wowed crowds with his athleticism and court vision.  Arnold is committed to play football at Baylor University after graduation.

Rounding out the induction class is two-time tourney MVP, four time All Tournament selection, and crowd favorite… the incomparable Lanie Roberts of Lipan.  Known best at Holiday Hoops for hustle, amazing shot making, and the incessant baritone announcement of “Laaanie Roberts” on the public address, Lanie’s performances have catapulted Holiday Hoops into the stratosphere of the state’s best girls tournament field.  With Roberts on the floor, the Lady Indians played in four straight tournament championship games, winning two.  Lanie will attend Tarleton State University on a basketball scholarship after graduation.
