Crash Involving Log Truck Leaves 1 Dead

On Friday (12/11/15) at about 12:06 pm, Sabine County DPS Troopers responded to the scene of a two vehicle crash on HWY 87, approximately ten miles south of Hemphill on the Sandy Creek Bridge in Sabine County. The crash involved a Peterbilt log truck and a 1999 Chevrolet pickup. The preliminary crash investigation indicates that the log truck was traveling northbound on HWY 87 in a right hand curve at an unsafe speed when the vehicle turned over and lost the load of logs being transported. A southbound 1999 Chevrolet pickup was subsequently struck by the logs after the truck turned over. One of the passengers in the pickup has been pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the pickup was transported by helicopter to an area hospital for treatment. A third passenger in the vehicle was not reported as being injured. The driver of the log truck was transported to a local hospital for treatment. This crash remains under investigation and no additional information is available at this time.
