UPDATE: DPS releases info on six-fatality head-on accident in Tyler County

On June 24 at approximately 3:15pm, there was a two vehicle crash on US-69 near CR 3205 in Tyler County.  This is 0.7 miles south of Colmesneil, Texas.  There were no survivors in this fatal crash.

 

A 1997 GMC pickup truck was traveling north on US-69.  A 2011 GMC SUV was traveling south on US-69.  For an unknown reason, the driver of the GMC pickup truck crossed the center stripe into the southbound lane and struck the GMC SUV head-on.

 

 The driver of the GMC pickup truck, Brandon Lee Simmons (30) of Colmesneil, Texas, was transported to Tyler County Hospital in Woodville, Texas.  Brandon Simmons died at the hospital at 6:53pm.  The passenger of the GMC pickup truck, Michael Ray Simmons (32) of Brookland, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace, Trisha Ford.

 

The driver of the GMC SUV, Doris McGowan Rogers (62) of Warren, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace, Trisha Ford.  Two passenger of the GMC SUV, Jewel Denson McGowan (95) of Warren, Texas, and Sharon Kaye Morgan (68) of Kountze, Texas, were both pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace, Trisha Ford.  The final passenger of the GMC SUV, Timberlee Kay Gossett (22) of Kountze, Texas, was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.  Timberlee Gossett died at the hospital at 5:07 p.m.

 

This crash closed US-69 in both directions for about five (5) hours.  

 

This is an ongoing crash investigation.  There are no further details to be released.
