Shelbyville man arrested for Hwy. 96 shooting incident Thursday

A Shelbyville man has been arrested and charged in a shooting incident that occurred late Thursday morning on US 96 North of Center.

Shelby County Jail records indicate 33-year old Marcus Hill was taken into custody last night and booked on two charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Hill reportedly drove up beside another vehicle, about two miles out of Center around 11:30 a.m., and shot into the vehicle, striking the driver and passenger.

Sheriff Willis Blackwell told Center Broadcasting Thursday a black male driving a small white 4-door sedan pulled up alongside a Chevy Surburban and shot into the driver's side with a shotgun loaded with bird shot, striking the driver, a 40-year old man from Burleson, Texas in the arm and head, and also a front-seat passenger, the man's 17-year old son, who was hit in the face.

The injured were taken by ACE EMS to ETMC-Carthage for treatment, stabilized and then transferred to ETMC-Tyler.

Sheriff Blackwell said two other children, a 12-year old male and 7-year old female, traveling in the back seat, were uninjured. They were picked up by a relative Thursday afternoon.

The family had been to visit their grandmother in Hemphill and were enroute back home when the incident took place, the sheriff said.

Sheriff Blackwell reports the occupants said they did nothing to provoke the shooting. He said the suspect slowed down, they went around, and that's when the suspect sped up, got up next to their vehicle and fired a shot.

No other details are available on the apprehension of Marcus Hill after a day-long investigation.
