TxDOT crews busy cleaning up after remnants of "Bill" come through Deep East Texas

LUFKIN - The remnants of Tropical Storm Bill made its way through the Lufkin District Thursday with several of the district's nine counties reporting trees down and flooded roadways that had motorists looking for alternate routes of travel.

Maintenance crews were busy Wednesday night and into Thursday monitoring rising water and removing debris and fallen trees. Some roads were closed and barriers set to turn motorists around while others roads were reduced to a single lane of travel.

"Roadways began flooding and several creeks began to overflow in the pre-dawn hours Thursday causing some roads to be flooded through most the day," said Rhonda Oaks, public information officer for the Lufkin District. "Our crews responded to many flooded areas and monitored them until the water receded. Some road surfaces were damaged and repairs will begin on those as weather allows."

Live updates of road conditions are available anytime at drivetexas.org and on Twitter @TxDOTLufkin.
