Flooding has prompted evacuations in Nacogdoches

As of 10:15 am the following streets are closed due to high water:

West College from Pearl to the creek

Pearl Street from Main Street to Powers

Ellington Street from Pearl to the creek

West California from Pearl Street to the creek

South Pecan from Cox to the City Garage

South Fredonia from Magnolia Street to the Creek

West Hospital from North Street to Pearl Street

Powers Street from Pearl to Old Tyler

Press Road from Lake Street to Hunter Road

The public is advised not to travel in these areas. Never cross or move a barricade. Do not drive into high water. Turn around-don’t drown.

Voluntary evacuations are being conducted along the Banita Creek in apartment complexes west of Pearl Street. Also South Fredonia in the Magnolia Street area, South Pecan and South Church areas.

 

From TxDOT: High water is threatening areas of downtown Nacogdoches at Banita Creek and on FM 225 near Moral Creek, west of Loop 224.

Sealcoating in sections of FM 95 between SH 21 and Blackjack has washed off road due high water.

 

From Sgt. Greg Sowell at the Nacogdoches Police Department:

The city of Nacogdoches is currently experiencing flooding along the Banita Creek.

 

Apartment complexes located near the creek west of Pearl are currently being notified to evacuate by members of the Nacogdoches Fire and Police Departments.

 

Pearl Street from Powers Street to West Main is closed due to high water.

Also closed is Powers Street from Pearl to Old Tyler Road.

 

The public is advised to avoid these areas, as the situation could change quickly. Never drive through high water, turn around-don’t drown!

 

The Nacogdoches Recreation Center at 1112 North Street has been opened as an emergency shelter for those displaced due to this flooding event.
