Texas Rangers investigating apparent self-inflicted gunshot incident during warrant service in Paxton area Tuesday

A man has apparently taken his own life while Shelby County Sheriff’s Department officials were serving arrest warrants at a residence in the Paxton area Tuesday afternoon.

Details are not known, but Shelby County Sheriff’s Dept. Chief Deputy Shad Sparks did confirm last night a man shot himself inside a home and was deceased. He said Texas Rangers were on the scene investigating.

He added while officials from his office were attempting to serve papers around 5 p.m., they heard a gunshot, but were unsure if the unidentified individual may have been shooting at them. There were several tense moments on the scene as indicated by police scanner communications until it was determined the suspect had shot himself.

No law enforcement were injured.

The charges on the warrants is not known.

Chief Sparks said more information on the incident will be released soon from Sheriff Willis Blackwell.
