REVISED: Local Sports Round up 03/31/15; Rider Soccer team's area game set, baseball, softball scheduled today

Soccer:

 

We know more about the Center Roughrider Soccer team's next playoff game. Center will play Hardin-Jefferson at 3 p.m. Thursday at Allen Academy in Bryan in the Class 4A area championship round. The Riders won their first ever playoff game last Friday with a 3-2 victory over Mexia in bi-district in Crockett. The winner of Thursday's game will be the LaVega-Little Cypress-Mauriceville winner in the region quarterfinals.

 

Baseball:

 

Monday's results:

 

The Timpson Bears take a 12-6 win over the Martinsville Pirates in a Dist. 23-2A game. Timpson improves to 5-1, Martinsville 1-5.

 

Tuesday's schedule (Dist. Record):

The Center Roughriders (3-1) will look to get back on track after last Friday's loss to Rusk as they GO TO Tatum (1-3) in Dist. 19-4A play tonight. JV starts at 4:30 p.m. followed by Varsity at 7 p.m. This Friday's game in Henderson is being moved to Thursday for Good Friday. The game times will be the same, 4:30 JV and 7 p.m. Varsity.

State Rankings:

 

The Center Roughriders have dropped three spots in the Class 4A state baseball rankings out Monday. After the setback to Rusk Friday, the Riders are No. 17 at 9-2-1. Hudson is No. 13 and Carthage No. 24. Pleasant Grove is still No. 1. In 3A, Central Heights is No. 3, Douglass remains No. 1 in 2A at 12-0, Beckville No. 13 at 10-0, and West Sabine No. 21. In 5A, Hallsville is No. 6 and Lufkin No. 15.

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons come up short to Zavalla, 3-5. They will start the second round of district today hosting Burkeville. Shelbyville is 5-2.

 

The Timpson Lady Bears lose to Wells, 4-5. Timpson (0-6) host Douglass today.

The Center Lady Riders (0-3) have a bye today and will be home to play Rusk starting at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

 

Big game in Dist. 23-2A as the Joaquin Lady Rams go to Cushing. Both teams are 6-1, and are tied with Alto for the district lead.

State Softball Rankings:

 

The Carthage Lady Bulldogs are No. 5 in this week’s Class 4A poll, with Hudson at No. 8. The 5A rankings have Hallsville No. 6 and Lufkin No. 23; 3A, Woodville is No. 11 and Central is No. 25; and in 2A, Beckville is No. 2.


District Golf:

 

The Dist. 19-4A tournament will be played in Longview Wednesday.

 

Track & Field:

 

The Roughrider Relays will be held at Roughrider Stadium starting at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

 

Joaquin Athletic Boosters:

 

The Joaquin Athletic Booster Fundraiser $10,000 raffle will be held Monday, May 11 in conjunction with the high school athletic banquet. The tickets are $100 each for the drawing, with only 250 tickets sold. The drawing goes as follows: 1st ticket drawn-$5,000, 2nd-6th tickets-$1,000 each. A total of $10,000 will be given away. There will not be a meal included with the drawing. If you would like to attend the athletic banquet as well, tickets for the meal will be on sell at the high school office at a later date. Tickets can be purchased from any Joaquin Athletic Booster member or the administration office.

 

The 37th annual Center Broadcasting-Shelby County Bass Anglers’ Take a Kid Fishing Bream Tournament will be held on Toledo Bend at Huxley Bay Marina on Saturday, May 9. We invite all children ages 3 to 15 years old to register for the free tournament. Entry forms can be picked up at the Center Broadcasting studios at 307 San Augustine Street in Center, Huxley Bay Marina, Scarber’s Grocery & Trail’s End & RV in Huxley, First Bank and Trust East Texas in San Augustine, or Hometown Tackle in Center.   Participants must be preregistered no later than May 1st.  Trophies will be awarded to each group and prizes will be available for each participant.  Fishing begins at 6am, and all participants must be in the weigh-in line no later than 12:30pm.
