Unemployment rates down locally

Texas and most of deep east Texas continues to maintain an unemployment rate below the U.S. national rate.

 

According to information released Friday by the Texas Workforce Commission, the February jobless rate was down to 4.3 percent statewide, compared to 5.5 percent nationally.

 

Here at home, Shelby County's unemployment for February was down to 4.9 percent, compared to 5 percent in January. That rate is well below the 6.6 percent in February a year ago. Texas Workforce says there are 562 looking for work in Shelby County in February.

 

In San Augustine County, February's rate is down to 8.8 percent from 9.2 the previous month, and 11.2 in February 2014.

 

In neighboring counties, the February jobless rates were: Sabine County, 8.8 percent; Nacogdoches, 4.5 percent; Angelina, 4.7; and Panola County, 4.1 percent.
