Local Sports Round up 03/30/15; Joaquin's Chambliss grabs bronze at state meet, Rider soccer wins first-ever playoff game, Evans picks up all-region honor

Power Lifting:

 

The boys' state meet was held last Saturday in Abilene with one local lifter bringing home some hardware.

 

Joaquin’s Case Chambliss took third place in the 148 lb. division in Class 2A with 1,205 total weight lifted and claimed a bronze medal.

 

Shelbyville – Kal Metcalf was 4th in the 242 lb. division with 1,545 pounds lifted, and Octavian Burrell was 6th in the 198 lb. division with 1,385 pounds lifted in Class 2A.

 

Center - Devincent Hoyt was 6th in the 242 lb. division in Class 4A with 1,545 pounds lifted.

 

 

Soccer:

 

The Center Rider Soccer team wins it’s first-ever playoff game with a 3-2 bi-district victory over Mexia Friday night in Crockett. The Riders will now take on Hardin-Jefferson tentatively set for Huntsville Friday night.

 

Basketball honor:

 

Center Roughrider Basketball stand-out Octavius Evans was recently selected all-region by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches. Evans was also named the MVP of Dist. 19-4A.

 

Baseball:

 

Friday's results:

 

The Center Roughriders had their four-game winning streak broken by Rusk as the Eagles leave Roughrider Field with a 3-4 win Friday night. The Riders drop to 3-1 in Dist. 19-4A, tied with Rusk and Carthage for the lead.

 

The Timpson take a 4-2 win over the previously unbeaten Gary Bobcats. The Bears and Gary are 4-1, tied for second. Timpson goes to Martinsville today.

 

The Joaquin Rams are shut-out by district leading, state-ranked and undefeated Beckville, 10-0 in 5 innings. The Rams are 3-2, while Beckville is 5-0.

 

The Shelbyville Dragons get a 13-9 win over winless Mt. Enterprise. The Dragons are 2-3, Mt. Enterprise (0-5)

 

The Tenaha Tigers lose to the Martinsville Pirates, 10-11 in extra innings. Tenaha and Martinsville are 1-4.

 

San Augustine (3-5) had a bye Friday and played a tough Broaddus Bulldog team Saturday, losing 3-12 in a district make-up.

 

In the battle of unbeatens in Dist. 24-2A, West Sabine (8-0) comes away with a 12-1 win over Broaddus (5-1) Friday.

 

The Garrison Bulldogs get a 4-1 over Woodville. Garrison is 3-2 in district, while Woodville is 3-2. Central Heights beats Diboll, 5-4, and remains on top of Dist. 22-3A at 5-0.

 

 

Rider JV Saturday:

The Rider JV loses both games of a double-header against Carthage Saturday, 3-6 and 2-4.

The Center Lady Riders are shut-out by district leading Carthage, 4-0. The Lady Riders are 0-3 in Dist. 19-4A.

 

The Joaquin Lady Rams maintain a share of the district lead with a 5-2 win over Gary. Joaquin is 7-1.

 

Timpson Lady Bears lose to Cushing, 0-10 Friday. Cushing (7-1) is tied with Joaquin for the district lead.

 

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons are defeated by West Sabine, 6-10 for their first district loss. Shelbyville is 5-1.

Joaquin Athletic Boosters:

 

The Joaquin Athletic Booster Fundraiser $10,000 raffle will be held Monday, May 11 in conjunction with the high school athletic banquet. The tickets are $100 each for the drawing, with only 250 tickets sold. The drawing goes as follows: 1st ticket drawn-$5,000, 2nd-6th tickets-$1,000 each. A total of $10,000 will be given away. There will not be a meal included with the drawing. If you would like to attend the athletic banquet as well, tickets for the meal will be on sell at the high school office at a later date. Tickets can be purchased from any Joaquin Athletic Booster member or the administration office.
