35th Nacogdoches Pro Rodeo & Steer Show begins today, trail rides part of Saturday's events

The annual Nacogdoches Pro Rodeo and Steer Show gets underway for the 35th time today at the Nacogdoches County Expo and Civic Center. Rodeo performances will be held tonight through Saturday at 7:45 p.m. as Pete Carr's Classic Rodeo Company is producing. There's no admission tonight, just a $2 donation that goes to Glory Gang Child Ministries. Tickets are $7 a night for Friday & Saturday, or a $10 armband to be used for both nights, and Saturday is "Tough Enough to Wear Pink".

A 30-plus year tradition continues Saturday as the Shawnee Hill Trailriders will make their way through Nacogdoches to a tail-gate party at the expo center Saturday afternoon.

Pam Hamby's husband's uncle, Son Summer's started the ride, and since his passing, James "Hambone" Hamby, Pam's husband has served as trail boss.

Ms. Hamby extends an invitation for anyone to join them Saturday and make the day-long ride by horseback, wagon and even ATV.

For more information on the Shawnee Hill Trailride, contact Pam Hamby at 936-564-1119. She adds it's a very family oriented event.

There's another trail ride that's part of the rodeo, Trail Seekers  will leave from Appleby Saturday.
