CHS Vet Med students tour Tyler's Caldwell Zoo

On Tuesday, March 24th, the Center Vet Med class traveled to Tyler, TX. to
tour the Caldwell Zoo.

The tour started by walking the zoo from a spectator point-of-view, then they met up with a Zoo employee (Mrs. Judy who has worked in Zoos for over 30 years). She took the students behind the scenes.

She also informed the students of zoo data including number of animals, funding, and number of employees. Mrs. Judy gave them descriptions of everyday tasks of various jobs at the zoo, including education needed and internship opportunities.

She then showed the students where they keep extra animals or animals that are not behaving well. They learned about the horticulture department which is responsible for the up-keep of all exhibits, growing endangered species and beautifying the park, and they toured the commissary where meals are prepared for over 3500 daily.

The students also toured the vet clinic and got to speak with one of the full
time vet techs that work at the zoo. The trip was very informative and
enjoyed by all!
