Local Sports Round up 03/23/15; Shelbyville's Hagler & Casey grab state championships, Rider Baseball will attempt to play Carthage at home today

Power Lifting:

 

Two Shelbyville Lady Dragons picked up gold medals and state championships at last week’s Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association State Meet in Corpus Christi in the Class 2A competition. Shelbyville’s Harlie Hagler was first in the 181 lb. division and Katie Casey in the 220 lb. division. Hagler had 910 lbs. total weight lifted, while Casey finished with 955 lbs. As a team, the Lady Dragons were third overall, missing second place by a point.

 

Joaquin Lady Ram Jaz Atkins was fourth in the 181 lb. division with 815 lbs. lifted. Desere Cooper bombed out.

 

Other Shelbyville finishes included: Cleosha Jeter-6th; Hannah hall 9th; Savannah Talbert 4th; and Kennedy Parker 6th. Tristin Wilburn bombed out.

 

Center Lady Rider Rachel Andrews was fifth in the 220 lb. class with a total combined weight of 890 lbs. in Class 4A. Teammate Ryley Hudspeth bombed out.

 

The boys' state meet is this weekend in Abilene with several local lifters taking part.

Baseball:

 

The Center Roughriders and Carthage Bulldogs will attempt to get their games in today after being cancelled Friday. The Dist. 19-4A action has been moved to Center at 4: 30 p.m. and Varsity at 7 p.m. Rider Head Coach David Sheppard says Roughrider Field is soft, but is hopeful some sun today will help. He said a final decision on the game will be made at 11 a.m. this morning. Center is 2-0 and Carthage is 1-0 in Dist. 19-4A play. Center is idle Tuesday.

 

The Joaquin Rams (2-1 dist.) lost to Gary, 4-1 Thursday.

 

The Tenaha Tigers’ (0-2) games vs. Beckville (2-0 dist.) is tentatively scheduled to be played at 6:30 p.m. tonight (Monday), weather permitting.

 

No word has been received on the Timpson Bears (2-0 dist) at Mt Enterprise and The Shelbyville Dragons (0-2 dist.) at Martinsville make ups from Friday.

 

The San Augustine Wolves beat the Chireno Owls Friday.

Soccer:

 

The Rider Soccer team closed out the regular season with a 1-0 win at Hudson Friday. The Riders finish the season 16-4 and will play a first-round playoff game Friday night, March 27 against Mexia in Crockett.
