We are approaching the Deep East Texas severe weather season for 2015. Along with that, the past 2 years has involved a number of changes in emergency and first response personnel in the area. And, several individuals in our area who could not attend other sessions have requested the additional training session to be held.  In response, Brad Hlozek, Chief Meteorologist from KTRE Channel 9 along with Bill Parker, Senior Meteorologist from the National Weather Service in Shreveport have put together a SKYWARN® Basic Training and Certification session for San Augustine, Shelby, Sabine, and other surrounding Counties.

The session will be held in the San Augustine County Courthouse as a central point for travel for those persons wishing to attend the training.  The session will be on Tuesday the 7th of April.  The session will start at 6:00 PM and complete around 7:30 PM.

Our emergency first responders like fire departments, law enforcement, ambulance services, ham operators, emergency coordinators, electric, gas, and water personnel are the prime audience as they are the feet on the street during severe weather related emergencies. The Storm Spotter training will be open to all who wish to participate.

If you are interested in becoming a trained storm spotter or just want more information about severe weather, now is the time to commit to attending this Basic Storm Spotter Training Session.  The session is NOT to train you to chase storms….

If you are like me, you will want to meet and interact with Bill Parker from the National Weather Service.  There are two classes:  Basic and Advanced But, only the Basic class is required to get your official Storm Spotter Certification Certificate.
